Sorry for more posts. But, one more type of Manga Screen stand that may be useful. These are simple easel-style braces with countersunk screw and screen mount holes. Two options: one that is taller with longer legs allowing portrait or landscape mounts, and another that looks nicer with shorter legs that just lets you mount in landscape.

So I've got a mange screen hooked up as part of a video mixer I'm building
So I’ve got a mange screen hooked up as part of a video mixer I’m building. My hope was to have the manga screen attached via an HDMI splitter whilst feeding another display at the same time. Issue I’m having is the rotation being in portrait as I’ve seen others have written. Problem I’ve got is the windows orientation on the first screen is correct and when I rotate in the display settings it doesn’t work as the primary screen then turns portrait and the manga screen rotates correctly but still has the incorrect resolution and doubles up the screen. Is there a firmware update that could fix the default orientation at all? I can’t seem to find much documentation regarding use with windows.

I noticed my screen is getting really hot after being turned on for more than 30min
I noticed my screen is getting really hot after being turned on for more than 30min. Seems to be mostly on the side with the LEDs but it’s definitely pretty warm to the touch. Since I’m using this as a battery powered FPV screen I’m worried about the power consumption and prolonged usage in an enclosed case… What is causing the heat? Is it a regulator for the LEDs?

Hi. So I have a Manga 2 1080… I’m struggling really badly to get it work with my Pi.. I’ve changed the config.txt etc as per Claudio Prezzi’s instructions but all I get on my screen is 3 partial desktops (the touch screen works which is great) If I plug my Pi into my TV I get fullscreen 1080, plug in Manga 2 in and I get as I said, 3 desktops.. Any help would be greatly appreciate. Works fine with my Windows 10 laptop but I want the Pi in my Peli case

I am just getting started with my replicape. I have used ramps and marlin several times before, but new to replicape. I have 12v from atx(PS) wired to the replicape as shown in the diagrams. I get a power led on the replicape and that is it. The beaglebone does not power up. It is my understanding that the cape should be passing 5v to the beaglebone directly. Not sure what to troubleshoot here. My power out form the ATX is good and I have confirmed polarity several times.

Is it possible to configure one of the four replicape fan drivers to run whenever steppers are turned on?
Is it possible to configure one of the four replicape fan drivers to run whenever steppers are turned on? I have an 80mm 12V 2W fan I’d like to use to cool the replicape when the steppers are on (because I want to exceed 0.5A), but it would be nice to turn the fan off when the steppers aren’t being driven. I have been printing with replicape for a while now and it has been great
I have been printing with replicape for a while now and it has been great. However last week it stopped working. I thought it might be a power supply issue, but swapped that out and the beaglebone black but still have the same issue. It can not find the replicape. Like would happen if no power was connected to it. When I turn it on the stepper motors jitter like always and I checked and there is 5 volts to the end stops but replicape is never found by octoprint. I have even re installed the operating system. But still same result. I have already ordered a new replicape but was wondering if there is something I might be able to do to fix this one.

So i have replaced the original controller board on a Tronxy x5s printer with replicape. I have it working great for me, with one exception. When printing circular items, the printer pauses for a second or two every so often. This leads to little bumps of extra plastic appearing where the pauses occurred. This only seems to happen on circular prints from what i can tell. Anyone have this issue or any recommendations on how to correct?

So while I have been having issues with electronics, I have been making solid progress on the rest my new coreXY build
So while I have been having issues with electronics, I have been making solid progress on the rest my new coreXY build. So I thought I’d share some pics here. Note that this design is heavily inspired by the DICE printer by +René Jurack, just enlarged a bit. The water cooling block I have done up for the replicape may be of interest to some and is the main reason I am posting this here. I can’t vouch for its efficiency, as I haven’t been able to test it with a live replicape yet, but I think it should be complete overkill!

I have nothing connected to the Replicape except for power (24V) and I am running the latest Umikaze image. Please tell me I don’t have a bricked board….

I had a question about homing. After I complete a homing routine all of the axis go to zero
I had a question about homing. After I complete a homing routine all of the axis go to zero. They go the amount I put in from the home switch to zero. That’s good except for the Z axis. I wanted it to go to around 20mm above zero. So far the only way I could get it work was to have my Z zero set about 20mm away from the true zero (bed face). I found a place farther down in the config file that looks like I can tell the axis where to go after homing but it doesn’t seem to follow that part? Any suggestions?

So I’m curious…and bear with me on this because I’m not a programmer…could a thermistor input be used instead to read the input from a variable voltage filament diameter sensor like what marlin supports? The sensor outputs a voltage equivalent of the filament diameter (1.75v = 1.75mm) I assume the hardware is capable with no problems but not sure what the limits would be as far as software.

Hi. So I got around to playing with Replicape, trying to set it up, but I can’t seem to get the motors to turn. For example when I press Extrude in Octoprint, the motor just starts to make a noise and the current from PSU rises, so the driver is clearly doing something, but the motor does not turn. When I press Motors off the noise stops and current drops. It seems like no step signals are being generated. I even tried to reflash the image and try it without altering the default configs, but it didn’t help.

The same speed difference did not exist for the fablab’s delta printers.

Is this an issue with the stock fan that comes with an E3DV6 hotend
Is this an issue with the stock fan that comes with an E3DV6 hotend. When I connect it, I only hear a hum and it does not spin up. If I connect a few other fans to any of the fan connectors, they are perfectly fine. As a test, if I connect the E3D V6 fan to a battery it is okay. I migrated from a different setup where the mains supplied 12 volts for fans that were on all the time. Any ideas why this occurs ?

I’m trying my first vase-style prints. The printer pauses for ~3s once or twice every layer. Any thought as to why this might happen? No retraction or anything, so it oozes out the filament and makes a big blob. It really feels like it’s experiencing some type of buffer overrun or similar?

Hello! Just ordered a Replicape and I'm trying to test some of the electronics I have on hand before it arrives
Hello! Just ordered a Replicape and I’m trying to test some of the electronics I have on hand before it arrives. I have a MAX31820PARMCR+ sensor, which is a One-Wire temp sensor from MAXIM and I am trying to make it work with my Beaglebone (I have a BB Green Wireless). The BB is running Kamikaze. The problem is that I cannot see the sensor when running “ls /sys/bus/w1/devices/”. One reason might be that the sensor only supports parasitic-power mode, where it sucks power from the DQ line, which the driver does not account for.

Just blown 5 times 20A fuse on Replicape and don’t know what is wrong :/ I have 24V/500W power supply. Last time i was testing if everything is ready on printer. Had heatbed (450W/24V) connected directly to replicape (together with 4x motors 1,7A run on 0,85A). For testing everything separately it was ok and i forgot to connect heatbed through SSR so i blow a fuse on replicape. Till today i was searching for new fuses. Last fuse was blown today when i had connected only power cables to replicape when i switched power on (nothing else connected to power supply or replicape).

I have a question related to cura 2.3.1
I have a question related to cura 2.3.1. Do you use the slicer for printing on Replicape? If so, did you happen to be when printing larger models motors lose steps and layers are shifted? For me, this often happens when they reach high travel speed (130mm / sec) and I suppose that this is related to the settings of speed, acceleration and jerk. What qualities do you use in your Replicape and from slicer when printing? Are you setting these values in Cura? Engines have approx. 0.5Nm 1.5A - in Redeem set 1A. I would use Cura, because it has good for me, interface and capabilities. My settings below:

Hi, I've finally got the OS and servers running on my Replicape v2, so I connected it to a new Kossel-style Delta
Hi, I’ve finally got the OS and servers running on my Replicape v2, so I connected it to a new Kossel-style Delta. I was able to get motion, but after many many hours of testing different settings, it appears the X driver is faulty. If I perform a home (for example), the X stepper usually makes it to the top, but sometimes doesn’t. If it makes it to the top, sometimes it doesn’t move after that (along with the Y and Z). I thought there was something wrong with my linear rails, so I bought new ones and tested them. Then I thought there was something wrong my belt setup, but after adjusting that I see the same issue (and the other axis work perfectly). So finally I figured it must be my stepper motor, but I tried switching the board’s X driver to a different motor, and now that motor is showing the same issue as the X, but the X motor works fine. In other words, it appears that the X driver on the board has a fault.

It will also simply version to safely store or move the unit (pocket 3D printer brain). After finishing I will put designs on Thingiverse.

Ok, ran into a really weird issue this time
Ok, ran into a really weird issue this time. I’m trying to print a large part, but once the printer finishes the first skirt outline, the printer just stops and sits there. I’ve previously noticed that it randomly stops and waits between movements when doing smaller parts (most noticeably, random pauses between every stroke on a solid infill), but it just never starts moving again. The only thing I’m getting in the OctoPrint terminal is a communication timeout once the printer has been standing still for 30 secs. I tried “systemctl -n 100 -l status redeem” but it gives no info.

Anyone out there get the BLtouch sensor working?
Anyone out there get the BLtouch sensor working? I will literally pay money to someone who will get a workaround for that bed leveling sensor. Elias, I will find a way to send you at least 2 of these sensors if you are willing to take on the project. Also, Ellias, why aren’t you on Patreon? I would pay some small amount (5-10$/month, with things being more to the 10$ end if I could put in a request for like “make BLtouch work” or “push out a newer image for the SD cards” or “help me identify why printing below 1000mm/sec can sometimes cause my prints to freeze and become unresponsive”) of money just for you to commit more time to the whole replicape / redeem / magenta thing. Anyways, keep up the good work. I think I am running the latest master branch and its working pretty good overall.

Hello guys! I've recently took a shot at getting into 3D printing, and it's a lot of fun!
Hello guys! I’ve recently took a shot at getting into 3D printing, and it’s a lot of fun! I bought a Cubex Duo mainly because of how the printer is designed. I know the software and proprietary accessories are crap. I’ve started replacing basically all of the electronics except for the stepper motors, and I’m considering the E3D Cyclops hot end with a modified direct feed filament system. Last week I ordered a Replicape and Manga Screen for my printer… I’ll get the BeagleBone either this week or next since the Replicape is on backorder until later this month.

Hello does anyone have a functioning g29 macro for a core xy they could post. I have my machine all up and running except for a working g29. I am not very familiar with g codes to get it working the way I would like . Right now I have it probing the bed at 8 points around the board but it does not lower the z axis between each move unfortunately dragging the nozzle across my plate and fouling up the bed leveling. Does anyone know the codes to lower the bed a set amount between moves. I would like it to move to each position and then probe location then lower the bed 5mm and then move to the next spot probe and so on.

It doesn’t seem to matter if I am going to 35c or 100c, when it gets to temp everything crashes. Below is what I can get from the logs when this happens. I tried turning logging up to debug but the steppers just start vibrating when I turn everything on and I can’t ever access Octoprint, but I can SSH in.

I have everything on my cartisian wired up and now its time to calibrate
I have everything on my cartisian wired up and now its time to calibrate. One question about that though. I had homing working on Kamikaze 1.0, but I noticed there was 1.1.0 so I upgraded to that and now I can’t get my printer to home the right direction with the same local.cfg. I want X to home negative, and Y to home positive(endstop at front of bed) yet it does the exact opposite for homing. For regular moves the axis go the commanded direction. I have tried flipping the signs and X still goes positive and Y still goes negative regardless of whats there. Am I missing something elsewhere in the configs?

ok silly question (but maybe the wiki could be more clear): How do you set the Z offset of the nozzle from the probe?
ok silly question (but maybe the wiki could be more clear): How do you set the Z offset of the nozzle from the probe? How does the X and Y offset affect the position of the nozzle? When setting a probe point, is that X/Y position supposed to be equal to the location of the nozzle or the location of the probe tip (which then I would assume the offset would be applied before a probe takes place).

What power supply are folks using with their Replicape? My PSU is a few years old now, a cheap 500W Apline ATX that came with my kit. It worked ok with a Melzi board but when printing in full swing on Replicape it’s hissing and whining, and cuts out for a few minutes. I’m thus considering a 12v 30a LED SMPS (since I don’t yet want upgrade everything else to 24v). I’m not sure if I’m having issues due to the drivers being less efficient in some way, or if the BBB is taking it over the edge.

So after faffing for too long getting wifi working reliably, and flashing the EEPROM manually (cape wasn’t attached on first boot), I’ve finally got my Replicape mounted, connected to power, and successfully connecting to Octoprint. I was just manually testing the endstops - one thing that’s not clear from the wiring diagram is why there’s three poles on the end stop plugs? Is this so one has the option of normally open or normally closed? On my current setup my printer (Sanguinoulu electronics) uses normally open (middle pin), which seems like a bad idea!

Update on the progress with PID auto-tune shows how a measurement of the maximum rise time, the dead time and the heat transfer coefficient can be used to better the relay tuning skew
Update on the progress with PID auto-tune shows how a measurement of the maximum rise time, the dead time and the heat transfer coefficient can be used to better the relay tuning skew. The tuning is completed on the -16 min mark here, and the testing shows that the P and I-values are perhaps too low. But the biggest problem with this tuning method is that it does not work reliably in the face of forced convection, IE a fan blowing on it. Even though the pre-calibration and tuning setup only works without a fan blowing, it should serve as a starting point for determining the right values for the PID and then move on to making it more robust.

Baseline PID Autotune. What you see in this picture is the result of running an M303 with no additional parameters on a Hexagon hot end with no fan. That causes a 3 cycle Åström-Hägglund (relay) tuning around 100 degrees. Following that, the temperature is set at 180 degrees. The overshoot is too high and there is some ringing after.

Tinkering so far in redeem all movements are now smooth and accurate while measuring with a vernier but oddly my 10x10 test cube comes out angled. I’ve got a Mini kossel (standard openbeam size, 17cm build plate), and I don’t want to lose build volume by mounting an extra fan on the effector. So I’ve got those 120mm fans blowing air at the plate from the side. Works really well to maintain temps for PLA.

Delta printers are a start to insanity
Delta printers are a start to insanity. So I got the FSR sensors working and they work a treat for levelling but my printer still does not seem to know what height it is. When starting a print job, whether I tell it to start at Z0.0 or Z1.0 (gcode) it still every time pushes the head into the bed until it hits the end stop. It does not start at the height I want it to and this causes the steppers to jump a step and everything is wildly off.

Quick couple questions on the Replicape. When the steppers are not moving but powered to keep position, I seem to get a bit of whining or hissing from the steppers. This has been a long and frustrating process to deal with thus far
This has been a long and frustrating process to deal with thus far. I have my BBB flashed with the latest Kamikazi. In fact at least 4 times so far. I have managed to get my eeprom flashed with the latest (Replicape_00B3.eeprom). I am trying to get into Octoprint to start setting up my printer. I cannot get it to connect from my computer. Here is my current setup. I am using a Windows 7 pc. I have my BBB/Replicape powered up via a 12 volt source at the power in on the replicape. I can connect to my BBB though puTTy with the USB and with a ethernet cable. I log in under “root” because that’s the only way I know how to right now. When connect with google chrome using 192.168.7.2 I get the “It works” screen with the IP address, Including the ethernet IP address. I get the same screen when I log in using the ethernet IP address. The problem is when I click on “Octoprint” I get an unable to resolve host error. Where am I going wrong? I have followed the Kamikazi flash videos and directions to a tee yet can’t get past having a black paperweight with flashing blue LEDs. I understand this is still a developing process but the lack of directions to get up and running are a real problem. Obviously these boards work great once you get them running, but getting to that point is very difficult for someone who lacks BBB experience. I’m sure I am doing something wrong but just can’t figure it out. While connected with putty I issued a “top” command and can see redeem, octoprint, and toggle all seem to be running (see attached picture). As I said before I’m sure this will be a nice controller board, I just can’t get it working. What am I missing here?

Something funky is going on with my end-stops
Something funky is going on with my end-stops. I am trying to use X2, Y2 and Z2. X2 and Z2 work fine, Y2 is triggering an event that is picked up in python (I get a “End Stop Y2 hit!”, i.e. event.code = 115) but if I inspect the PRU according to “state = PruInterface.get_shared_long(0)” I get “state = 0b0”. This should be 0b10000. Inspecting all the other end stop pins with PruInterface gives me the expected values ranging from 0b1 to 0b100000.

So I recently upgraded to a Bowden setup on my delta and have been trying to push the boundaries of [my] print speed
So I recently upgraded to a Bowden setup on my delta and have been trying to push the boundaries of [my] print speed. Unfortunately I seem to have hit an issue with the ability of Redeem to feed Gcode to the path planner fast enough to keep up with the desired print speed. I have played around with the planning buffer settings but haven’t had much luck. Symptoms are stop-start printing while the data transfer rate (shown in Octoprint) is approximately constant. Trying to run at around 150mm/s. Anyone else had this? Should we be looking at further optimizations of the python Gcode pre-processor or was this already done to satisfaction by Anthony Clay? Or am I looking in the wrong direction?

Elias Bakken I see the Redeem code supports a filament sensor
+Elias Bakken I see the Redeem code supports a filament sensor. I am currently using the Tunnell sensor that does all the work but I like the idea of the code being in control since it knows when it should be extruding. The replicape doesn’t have any extra i/o and I see it is using the event subsystem so is it setup to use mouse or something?

Dusted off my old CoreXY for something to connect the new replicape to. Need to track down the rattle. +Elias Bakken is there any way to make the printer home to X/Y max? It kept wanting to home to min so I had to flip the stepper direction and endstops to be able to play with it. Only X and y connected until I rewire.

+Elias Bakken is there a way to update the 12-23-15 kamakazi image and upgrade the redeem package from the develop branch? I could not find the way to switch from main to develop in the apt settings and when I tried to compile from source it out everything in /use/local and I have conflicts with the old one from the image.

Just in time for the Debian Jessie release party and the release of Kernel 4.0 I’ve finished a beta version of Kamikaze which is what I’ve named the Debian based distro for Replicape. The aim is to have a turn key BBB image with Redeem, Toggle and Operate which is the new name for the web interface incorporating Octoprint and stuff. There are still some quirks with this, but great if anyone wants to give it a shot and help with debugging the last issues :)

In case you missed it, I’m adding a link to the Review Thomas Sanladerer did on Replicape. He loves the hardware, but feels the firmware is lacking. I agree with him and so getting a working Redeem version 1.0 is a big priority now as well as documenting the features available.

There will be a new revision of Replicape coming out in a few months
There will be a new revision of Replicape coming out in a few months. One of the most important features is a lower price. Because of that we have decided to sell the remaining replicapes at the price we hope to achieve for the new revision. There are only two left in stock, so be quick if you want to get in on that. Here are the suggested changes for the new revision, but feel free to pile on if there is anything you feel is missing :)

For anyone who wants to use a Debian based image for Replicape, you need to download and compile the device tree: Place it in /lib/firmware/ compile the DT with: dtc -O dtb -o BB-BONE-REPLICAP-0A4A.dtbo -b 0 -@

I've added M350 (microstepping) and M906 (set current) as g-codes
I’ve added M350 (microstepping) and M906 (set current) as g-codes. Also, three virtual TTY pipes are created from Redeem when it starts up, one for Octoprint, one for Toggle and one for Testing. The latter does not send a response through the channel and so it can actually be used to pipe output directly from CuraEngine, like this:

Am I correct in assuming the steps per mm in the Redeem software configuration file is using the stepper steps per rotation before applying any micro stepping?
Am I correct in assuming the steps per mm in the Redeem software configuration file is using the stepper steps per rotation before applying any micro stepping? The default values are a lot lower than I am use to seeing. We usually specify the steps per mm calculated after the micro stepping has been applied (200steps/mm * 1/16 micro steps = 3200 / 40 (20 tooth pulley) = 80 steps per mm where the cupcake config is showing 5. Just need to change my way of thinking (makerbot and repetier firmware) if so.
